Since the new year, Youth Covid Challenge has been developing an arts competition for 10-18 year olds that has been run through schools, colleges and community organisations in the Hall Green locality. We are thrilled to now be able to exhibit the winners, alongside each and every submission that was received, on our Youth Rules Lockdown 2021 – Exhibition page.
The submissions were split into two age categories (10-14 and 15-18), both with three winners respectively: bronze, silver and gold. The winners were decided on by a panel of local young people who have participated in Youth Covid Challenge on a weekly basis since December.
Each participant was required to respond to the following brief through artwork, by digital means, or in writing:
‘How have you stayed safe and positive throughout lockdown?’
The responses were amazing and incredibly diverse. They included collage, poetry, graphic design, painting and short stories – we are truly blown away by the talent that has been showcased. It is also a testament to the array of experiences of the pandemic that the young people in our locality have had. We have been able to build on existing ties with the local schools that supported our wonderful submissions, an outcome which will aid the ongoing work of our Families & Early Help team as they strive to support vulnerable young people and families locally.
