Delivering Festive generosity with support before CHRISTMAS:
The Hall Green Families Team has had a very busy festive period sharing the generosity of others with much cheer. While thousands of family are experiencing unprecedented financial and emotional hardship this winter, goodwill and kindness are in no short supply in the Hall Green locality. Presents, food, activities, books, clothes, winter warm packs and sanitary products have all been shared across school, nursery, children centre, community group and youth centre settings throughout December 2021. Thanks to the support of amazing partners, the Hall Green Families Team, have been able to offer Early Help support to hundreds of families this festive season with an extra helping of stories, play and family essentials.
Thanks to some of our partners, here are some of the great things we’ve done this December:

4StepstoaSmile: With the help and kindness of 4StepstoaSmile we brought many smiles to families faces this December! 4StepstoaSmile is a charity based in Walsall that provides thousands of gifts to vulnerable children throughout the West Midlands.
They have extended their help to children’s homes, parents and children entering the emergency care system. And now, Hall Green Families. Facing another Christmas under COVID restrictions and after the enormous hardship faced by families in our locality this year, 4StepstoaSmile donated 400 gifts to us to distribute to schools and families in our locality! Operations Manager, Kirsty and our new Family Support Worker, Lubna picked, packed and delivered off gifts for families and young people this Christmas. You can help support 4StepstoaSmile to continue providing smiles to faces of those in the West Midlands, find out more here.

#Toys4Bham: We were also supported by the #Toys4Bham campaign, which saw 800 gifts make their way to Hall Green locality Children’s Centres, Ashiana Community Project, Balsall Heath CATS, GreenSquareAccord’s young parents supported housing scheme and our Festive Fun Day event, held at Concord Youth Centre! Players from Warwickshire County Cricket Club delivered the gifts to Concord on the day of the event which added an extra sparkle. We were blown away by the kindness and generosity of those that donated. You can find out more about BPCN, Edgbaston Foundations and Thrive Together Birmingham who organised the #Toys4Bham campaign, here!

FESTIVE FOOD: We reached out to local restaurants in the local area before holding our Festive Fun Day and we we’re astounded. Local restaurants Al-Faisal’s, Jyoti’s and Milan Sweet Centre responded to our plea for help! They provided warm food including, dahl and spring rolls and delicious Indian sweetmeats for our visitors to enjoy. A massive thank you!
We have also been able to distribute food parcels to families this Winter. Ellas Mattu Foundation in Wolverhampton gave us 50 food parcels to share with schools in our locality. Each box was filled with cereal, pasta, rice, biscuits, tea, sugar, soap and more! They have proven to be a lifeline for struggling families. Thank you so much!
SANITARY PRODUCTS: As part of our pledge to provide support to vulnerable families, we found that sanitary products was an essential item to provide to families in need. We sent out a plea to local health providers, from pharmacies, to GP practices and we we’re delighted with the response.
Birmingham and Solihull Women’s Aid generously donated two large bags full of sanitary pads and tampons.
Highfield Road Pharmacy, based in Hall Green donated a large box of pre-packaged sanitary pads.
Amy Maclean, Development Lead, Maternity and Children Ladywood & Perry Barr Integrated Care Partnership and Hannah Warwick, Palliative Care Social Worker based at Birmingham St. Mary’s Hospice have both kindly donated bags of sanitary products, cream and flannels. These small act of kindness go a long way to providing much needed support to those that may not be able to stretch their budgets to some essentials this year.
Thank you all for helping us help families! Best wishes for 2022.
