This weekend we had the pleasure of visiting the #SpiritofPakistan event, where @Raqs Art presented their enchanting Geet Kehani group — a project we proudly fund at Hall Green Neighbourhood Network Scheme.
The performance was a rich tapestry of traditional South Asian songs, storytelling, and visually striking performances, each piece woven together to celebrate heritage and create an atmosphere that was immersive and moving.
We were also honoured to meet The Lord Mayor of Birmingham, Zafar Iqbal, whose presence highlighted the importance of celebrating cultural diversity and the arts in our city.
The Geet Kehani project is about much more than performance — it’s about bridging health and hashtag#wellbeing gaps through creative expression, particularly within the hashtag#SouthAsian community. By working directly in these communities, the project fosters trust, belonging, and the chance for people to share their own hashtag#stories in ways that heal and inspire.
One audience member described it beautifully:
“From the traditional clothes, storytelling, dance and songs it was a truly authentic experience. It took me back to my childhood days — very nostalgic, positive and beautiful.”
The afternoon reminded us how the arts can be a powerful force for both personal wellbeing and community connection — a celebration of culture that leaves a lasting imprint on the heart.
