Hall Green NNS was proud to host an engaging and impactful Deaf Awareness Training session yesterday, delivered by the expert team at BID Services — an organisation committed to supporting Deaf and hard of hearing communities.
The session brought together a diverse group of local professionals, organisations, and community members to explore how we can all communicate more effectively and inclusively with Deaf individuals.
What made the training especially powerful was its delivery: led by Deaf trainers whose first language is British Sign Language (BSL), with support from a qualified BSL interpreter. This allowed attendees to learn directly from lived experience — adding depth, authenticity, and real-world perspective to every part of the session.

Key Takeaways for Attendees:
- Greater understanding of Deaf culture and the barriers faced by Deaf individuals
- Practical communication tools to improve accessibility and inclusion in everyday interactions
- Increased confidence in engaging with Deaf colleagues, customers, and community members
This training served as a valuable reminder that inclusion begins with awareness — and that small changes in how we communicate can lead to big improvements in access and belonging.
We’re incredibly grateful to everyone who attended and contributed to such a meaningful experience. Events like this are vital in building a more informed, empathetic, and connected community.
